He also had a walk-off homer to beat the Yanks 6-5 on July 11, 1965, the Twins' World Series season, and another against New York on May 31, 1970, a 7-6 victory in 10 innings. His only walk-off not against the Yankees was against the A's on September 11, 1974 in the 10th; it was his last home run in a Twins uniform. I think my Little League bat was a Killebrew model -- not that it did for me what it did for him!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-778276834012183021.post-44603534561342969782011-05-17T18:41:00.610-05:002011-05-17T18:41:00.610-05:00Thanks for your excellent tribute to Harmon. I gr...Thanks for your excellent tribute to Harmon. I grew up in southern Minnesota in the mid & late 1960's and the Twins were the first professional sport team I "discovered". I loved listening to their games on WCCO radio.

When Killebrew hit a 2 run homer with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the hated Yankees 4-3 in an early July game (July 4th if I remember correctly) I knew the Twins could go all the way that year. They made it to game 7 of the World Series. My classmates and I also saw some of the afternoon games in that series in our school gym.

I still use my baseball glove from that era which is a Tony Oliva model.

Canadian VikingAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-778276834012183021.post-29809291524800587532011-05-17T18:27:46.242-05:002011-05-17T18:27:46.242-05:00I enjoyed your piece (article/essay?) very much. M...I enjoyed your piece (article/essay?) very much. Mr. Killebrew was indeed in the company of Mays, Mantle, Aaron, Kaline: the baseball royalty of the era. I remember the all-star game he got hurt, I thought it a horrible tragedy. I didn't know what kind of man he was until the last two days. You added something kind and decent to our memory of him. Appropriate. Thank you.Michael Butterworthnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-778276834012183021.post-5597679827654920682011-05-17T12:17:16.566-05:002011-05-17T12:17:16.566-05:00Thanks for checking out my post on Harmon Killebre...Thanks for checking out my post on Harmon Killebrew. This was a very nice read, we certainly are both very old school. It was a magical time for baseball!Harvey Dakotahttp://www.yougabsports.comnoreply@blogger.com
